If you fail a class it will be marked on your Transcript with an F. It will also lower your GPA. Depending on how you do in other classes, failing a class may or may not put you into academic probation. The minimum satisfactory GPA for a person who has 0 to 24 credits is 1.5. If you are taking 5 classes and only fail one and get Bs in all the rest your GPA would be 2.4. This means you would not be under academic probation. If you took 5 classes, failed two of them, got B in one, and Cs in the other two, your GPA would be 1.4. This would put you under academic probation. Check out our FAQ on Academic Probation for more information.
A failed class may or may not have to be repeated. That depends on if it was a required course for your degree. If it was required it will need to be taken again, and passed for you to be able to graduate. If it was elective, you can take it again, or you could take a different class to satisfy the elective.
