Required classes outside of your major are typically General Education classes, or Gen Eds. The following is a quote from an article titled, "General Education Requirements: What's the point?":
a general education curriculum enables students to do: gain broad knowledge, learn intellectual and practical skills, understand cultural differences, evaluate ethical consequences, and make connections across academic disciplines.
No matter your major you may think Gen Eds are useless and time consuming, but what good is knowledge about one thing and one thing alone? The purpose of college is to learn, and purpose of Gen Eds is to expand that learning. Consider this, only 27% of college graduates have a job in the field of their major. The Gen Ed classes you have to take will benefit you because they will broaden your horizens and give you more opportunites. The best part is typically Gen Eds are not required by specific class, but by specific category. So look at all the classes available in the required categories and pick the ones that are most interesting to you. Go into with an open mind; you'll definetly learn something and you might even enjoy it too.
