A prerequiste is described as:
a thing that is required as a prior condition for something else to happen or exist.
In a college setting, a prerequisite is a class that is required to take another class. For example English 102 has a prerequiste of English 101. Many higher level courses will have prerequisites of lower level ones. A class may also have a corequiste, which is a class that needs to or can be taken at the same time as the class.
