What is the Excelsior Scholarship?

The Excelsior Scholarship is a scholarship that covers tutiton avilable to New York Residents who attend a SUNY or CUNY schools. The scholarship will cover tuition for all four years of a bachelors degree if the following requirements: 

  • Your household adjusted gross income is less than $125,000
  • You complete 30 credits a year 
  • You pass all classes
  • You stay and work in New York after graduation for the same number of years you recieved the award. 
    • This means if you use the Excelsior Scholarship to get your associates you'd have to live and work in NY for 2 years after you graduate. If you use the scholarship to get your bachelors you'd have to live and work in NY for 4 years after you graduate. 
    • If you leave New York after graduation the scholarship turns into a 10 year, no interest loan.
    • If you stay in New York for part of the required time, but leave early, the time reamining will be convereted into a 10 year, no interest loan.
