How many credits you should take depends on how fast you want to finish your degree. A person considered a full-time student is someone who takes at least 12 credits a semester (about 4 classes). An associates degree requires about 60 credits. You may have heard an associates degree referred to as a “two year degree”. To actually complete an associates in two years a person would have to take about 15 credits (about 5 classes) a semester. Someone taking 12 credits a semester would complete their degree in about 2 and a half years. Simply put, the more credits you take a semester the faster your degree will be complete.
